The Language Services Department (LSD) provides vital linguistic support to the Republic of Vanuatu and its citizens, ensuring that all government documents, such as reports, circulars, bills, vacancy announcements, laws, and other official communications, are published in the three official languages to promote public understanding.
Upon completion of a report or a document, the respective department or ministry is required to submit the final draft to the Language Services Department, which then undertakes the translation into the specified languages as requested by the submitting agency through a Translation request form. The Department offers a range of services to the people of Vanuatu, including translation, revision, interpretation, terminology management, language awareness initiatives, and the preservation of vernacular languages.
The Language Services Department is currently organized into five sections: French, English, Bislama, Legal, and Administration. Each section specializes in its respective area to provide comprehensive linguistic/administrative support.
We facilitate effective communication between speakers and users of the three official languages, both internally and externally. Additionally, we enable the Government to communicate efficiently with its citizens and to engage with the two major linguistic and cultural communities of the world, thereby supporting interactions in cultural, educational, developmental, technical, and economic spheres.

La Direction Services Linguistiques (DSL) fournit un soutien linguistique vital à la République de Vanuatu et à ses citoyens, en veillant à ce que tous les documents administratifs, tels que les rapports, circulaires, projets de loi, avis de vacance, lois et autres communications officielles, soient publiés dans les trois (3) langues officielles afin de promouvoir la compréhension du public.
Après l’achèvement d’un rapport ou d’un document, tout service ou ministère concerné doit soumettre la version finale à la DSL, qui procède ensuite à la traduction dans les langues spécifiées, conformément à la demande de l’agence soumettrice au travers un Formulaire de demande de traduction. Le Service offre une gamme de services aux citoyens, y compris la traduction, la révision, l’interprétation, la gestion terminologique, les initiatives de sensibilisation linguistique, ainsi que la préservation des langues vernaculaires.
Le Service est actuellement réparti en cinq (5) sections : la section française, la section anglaise, la section bichlamar, la section juridique et en outre la section administrative. Chaque section se spécialise dans son domaine respectif afin de fournir un soutien linguistique/administratif complet.
Nous facilitons une communication efficace entre les locuteurs et les utilisateurs des trois langues officielles, tant au niveau interne qu’en externe. De plus, nous permettons au gouvernement de communiquer efficacement avec ses citoyens et d’interagir avec les deux principales communautés linguistiques et culturelles du monde, soutenant ainsi les échanges dans les domaines culturel, éducatif, développemental, technique et économique.
