In order for the Government of the Republic of Vanuatu to provide better and efficient language services to its people, the LSD looks forward to the following:
- Establish a National Language Act, which the country has never had, that will govern all language affairs in Vanuatu;
- Provide strategies to the people of Vanuatu for the purpose of protecting and promoting all vernacular languages of the country, as per the Article 3(2) of the Constitution of the Republic of Vanuatu;
- Strengthen the implementation of Article 3(1) of the Constitution of the Republic of Vanuatu, to cover all language areas in the country;
- Improve interpretation services in Vanuatu;
- Introduce revision services;
- Establish an electronic terminology bank for the Republic of Vanuatu, which the country has never had;
- Improve the management of Government documents and information at the Department’s level; and
- Set up the Language Council and coordinate its functions and activities.
