Language Department & Bible Society Strengthen Working Partnership

signing-of-agreement

The Language Service Department (LSD) has signed an agreement with the Bible Society, to increase the capacity of language development in Vanuatu. The LSD works under the Prime Minister’s office while the Bible Society works under the Vanuatu Christian Council. Both bodies deal with translation but have strengths in different resources. Pastor Bernard Yalimyau, representative of the Bible Society to the signing said where Bible Society has human resources that are trained and equipped to work, it lacks funds to do more of its work. The partnership between these two bodies will help provide what the Bible Society lacks.

It was agreed that, through this Partnership Agreement, since the Bible Society is committed to a lot to translate the Bible into Bislama and vernacular languages, which are the first cultures of the people of Vanuatu, this body opening under the Vanuatu Christian Council could work in collaboration with the Language Services Department under the Ministry of the Prime Minister to address certain language matters in the Republic of Vanuatu.

The Language Services Department, as per its responsibility to ensure that all Government documents are in the three (3) official languages of the Republic of Vanuatu, including also Bislama which is a national language on the other hand, and its duty to establish strategies at the Government level in regards to protection, preservation and promotion of all Vanuatu languages, entered the partnership with the Bible Society on the Partnership Agreement, please click on the link below to view or download the Partnership Agreement.
