Language Services Department (LSD) & Bible Society Strengthen Working Partnership / La Direction des Services Linguistiques (DSL) et le Conseil œcuménique de Vanuatu renforcent leur partenariat de travail
The Language Service Department (LSD), operating under the Ministry of Prime Minister (MPM), has formalized a partnership with the Bible Society, which functions under the Vanuatu Christian Council (VCC). This collaboration aims to enhance language development initiatives across Vanuatu. Both organizations are actively involved in translation work but bring different strengths to the table. The Bible Society has trained and equipped personnel dedicated to translation projects, particularly the translation of the Bible into Bislama and various vernacular languages, the first languages of Vanuatu’s diverse communities. However, it faces funding constraints that limit the scope of its activities.
The partnership seeks to combine the resources and expertise of both bodies to address these challenges effectively. Through this collaboration, the Bible Society will work closely with the LSD to support language preservation, translation, and promotion efforts throughout the country.
The LSD is responsible for ensuring that all government documents are available in Vanuatu’s three (3) official languages, including Bislama, which is recognized as a national language. Additionally, the Department develops strategies to protect and promote all Vanuatu languages, ensuring their continued use and vitality. Le Département des Services Linguistiques (DSL), opérant sous le Ministère du Premier Ministre (MPM), a officialisé un partenariat avec la Société Biblique, qui fonctionne sous le Conseil Chretien du Vanuatu (VCC). Cette collaboration vise à renforcer les initiatives de développement linguistique à travers le Vanuatu. Les deux organisations sont activement impliquées dans le travail de traduction mais apportent des forces différentes. La Société Biblique dispose de personnel formé et équipé, dédié aux projets de traduction, notamment la traduction de la Bible en Bislama et dans diverses langues vernaculaires, qui sont les premières langues des communautés diverses du Vanuatu. Cependant, elle fait face à des contraintes de financement qui limitent l’étendue de ses activités.
Ce partenariat cherche à combiner les ressources et l’expertise des deux entités pour relever ces défis de manière efficace. Grâce à cette collaboration, la Société Biblique travaillera en étroite collaboration avec le DSL pour soutenir la préservation des langues, la traduction et la promotion à travers le pays.
Le DSL est responsable de garantir que tous les documents du gouvernement soient disponibles dans les trois (3) langues officielles du Vanuatu, y compris le Bislama, reconnu comme langue nationale. De plus, le Département élabore des stratégies pour protéger et promouvoir toutes les langues du Vanuatu, afin d’assurer leur utilisation continue et leur vitalité. Ce partenariat s’inscrit dans l’objectif commun de faire progresser le développement et la préservation des langues au Vanuatu.
